New Publication: An insatiable hunger for charisma? A follower-centric analysis of populism and charismatic leadership

14 April

New paper by Rudolf Metz and Bendegúz Plesz "An insatiable hunger for charisma? A follower-centric analysis of populism and charismatic leadership" has been published in Leadership (D1).

The article aims to contribute to the 'charismatic leadership thesis' proposed by the populism literature, which assumes that charismatic leadership and strong leaders have an important role in populist politics. Using a new scale for measuring charisma, the survey research found that while the populist worldview increases people's hunger for charisma or strong leadership, it does not play an important role in their recognition of charismatic behavioural patterns presented by real-life leaders and in their emotional commitment to these politicians.
